Google Alert

“Did you find out anything?”

I lowly whispered into my phone. I was sitting in the middle of our school's library ducking my head under my arms as I spoke. Kadie had just found out the night before that she'd be flying out to LA by the end of the week for a two week assignment. Eva, Kadie's boss, told her she'd be working with Jonah's team on a “secret” project. Apparently Jonah's company needed Darlington Co. to finalize a few details before taking the news to the presses. There were already rumors streaming through gossip news sites predicting what the announcement could be.

“Not yet” Kadie whispered back. “Eva's coming! I gotta go!” Her words were rushed as she hung up the phone.

I dropped my hands on the table and looked up at Sarah. She was sitting in front of me with her nose buried in class notes. “Sarah” I loudly whispered to get her attention. She looked up “how do you not know what's going on?”

“I'm sorry, Lynn” She pouted “My mum knows I've got a massive blabber mouth. She never tells me anything work related anymore!”

Connor was working late that night, so I decided to head back to my place. Jaime and I had been texting back and forth that day. He was working at the hospital close by to my apartment. I asked him to come over for dinner once he was done with his shift.

Once I settled in, there was a knock at my door. Jaime helped himself inside and greeted me as he walked in. “Hola mamacita!” He sang as he held up a bag of Chipotle.

We grabbed a couple of plates and plopped ourselves in the living room in front of the TV. We watched a rerun of 30 Rock as we caught up with each other.

“Jaime, you will never believe what happened..” I grabbed his arm, startling him.

“Oh my God! What?” He spoke with equal shock.

I told him all about Poppy and everything that happened between her and Adam. “...So, now she's threatening to sabotage his relationship with Kadie.”

“What the legitimate fuck?!” Jaime put down his plate and folded his arms as he thought to himself. “That girl is bad news.” He shook his head. “What is Adam planning on doing about it?”

“I don't know, but we've got to come up with something good.” I stared off into space as I thought of ideas before Jaime's voice brought be back to reality.

“So, what does Kadie think about the whole situation?” He asked as he bit into his burrito.

I put down my plate and made an are you kidding face, “Kadie has no idea. You know how she is, she'd flip shit.”

Jaime stopped in mid-bite. He covered his mouth before he cleared his throat. “Wait, I'm sorry, what?” I looked at him confused. “You two are seriously not going to tell Kadie? Lynn, do you understand the drama that's going to cause? Take it from me, I know drama...”

I know, Jaime” I rolled my eyes, irritated. “But, if we tell her and she does something to Poppy? Eva's beloved niece? Maybe in the end she'll have Adam, but she sure as hell won't have a job. She's dreamed of working at Darlington. I can't sabotage that.”

Jaime shook his head “I don't know, Lynn.” He sighed between his thoughts, “something tells me this is gonna go terribly wrong.”

Let's hope for the best” I sighed, defeated. Jaime shrugged his shoulder and tapped his plastic coke bottle against mine.

We finished up dinner and Jaime headed back home.

The rest of the week rolled by quicker than it came. We were at the last few weeks of our semester before summer vacation, so I was glad time was flying by.

Saturday morning Adam and I dropped off Kadie at the airport. After she safely made it past security, Adam took me back to Connor's place.

So, what's been going on with Poppy? Any updates?” I asked as we sat in the car.

She's pissing the shit out of me.” Adam collected himself before he continued. “She's been trying to reach out to Kadie all week. I've been having to watch her like a hawk. Which is only making it worse because now she's on to me.” He put his hand behind my head rest and turned around to back out of the parking spot.

What do you think she's going to do? I don't know if Kadie would believe anything Poppy would say.” My conversation with Jaime earlier this week kept playing back in my head. “Maybe we should tell her?”

Adam switched the gears on his car and looked over at me. “You're kidding, right? You know Kadie idolizes Poppy. She'd believe anything. That's what I'm afraid of.”

We've got two weeks to get rid of Poppy Leroux” Adam and I looked over at each other in agreement.

Half an hour later, we finally made it to Connor's place. I invited Adam inside for a drink. I knocked on the door, but Connor never opened it. I pulled out my spare key and opened the door. Adam helped himself on the couch while I looked around the apartment trying to find Connor. When he was no where in sight I gave him a call.

Hey babe, where are you?” I asked as he answered the phone.

Lynn, I'm so sorry I just got pulled into work this morning. I've been so swamped I didn't get a chance to tell you.” I could hear another doctor from his practice talking in the background and the sound of shuffling papers. Just those alone made me feel bad for him.

That's fine. Adam dropped by, but it's okay we can do something later.”

Wait” the sound of shuffling papers stopped. “Adam's there?”

Yeah” I responded slowly.

He's at my apartment, alone, with you?” Connor asked insinuating something else.

Is there a problem? Because I really don't see one.” I replied in a stern voice.

There was a second of silence before Connor exhaled a heavy breath, “I'll see you later” his voice had quickly gone from distracted to annoyed.

Once we hung up I turned towards Adam and shook my phone. “This boy is gonna be the death of me.” I tossed it onto the couch and went into the kitchen to pour out some mimosas.

After an hour of chatting, Adam decided to go on his way. I spent majority of my day lounging around Connor's place until he'd gotten home that evening.

He walked into the apartment looking drained. His outfit was much more casual than his normal work week attire. He walked over and gave me a kiss as he greeted me. Eventually falling over on the couch, exhausted.

Why'd you have to go in today?” I asked curiously.

I'm working on a project with the other doctors for a charity.” Half of Connor's attention was on me and the other half on the muted TV playing the news. He furrowed his brows and turned towards me. “Why was Adam here?”

He dropped me off after the airport. We thought you'd be home, so he came inside to see you.” I explained.

Why didn't he leave when he saw I wasn't here?” Connor asked.

Because I told him to stay anyway for drinks.” I looked at Connor as if he were crazy.

Lynn, you know I don't like that sort of thing” He sat up straight as he spoke.

I'm sorry, you don't like what? Me being friends with my best friend's boyfriend?”

I don't like you being here, or anywhere, alone with another guy.” Connor stood up and walked to the kitchen.

That's ridiculous” I mumbled to myself.

What?” Connor looked over at me from where he was standing.

Adam's a friend, Connor. I think you're being a little too paranoid.” I rolled my eyes.

Connor walked half way back to the living room. “I don't care. If you want to be friends with them, fine. But don't hang out with them alone. I said I don't like it, I don't like it.” We stood there staring at each other until he walked back into the kitchen. I decided to pick my battle and stayed quiet. By now I'd known that Connor has a short temper and I really didn't want to deal with another argument.

We spent the rest of the night watching TV in silence. Sunday morning I headed back to my apartment to get my things ready for the week.

It wasn't until Monday morning that I'd gotten a call from Kadie. She knew my schedule, so I though it was weird that she was calling me during class. I quickly ran out into the hallway to answer her call.

K? Is everything okay?”

Oh my God, Lynn.” Kadie sounded like she'd just ran a marathon. As she was catching her breath a Google alert went off on my phone. I had set one up in case anything was announced about Jonah's company. “You will never fucking believe this!” Kadie's voice shouted through the phone as I pulled away to see the alert.

I covered my mouth in shock as I read the headline:

  1. WOO HOO!! This is going to get very interesting! Oh, and WTF Connor? You are seriously going to tell Lynn not to hang out with her male friends alone? Possessive much? And Lynn, "pick my battles"? She should have walked out the door at his comments. Seriously, that is so not going to work. Connor is going to turn into a stalker.

    1. The most disturbing comment was, "I said I don't like it, so I don't like it." As if his was the final word and Lynn was to just obey, end of discussion. You get to request things of your significant other and if they don't do it you decide whether it's a deal breaker for you. You don't get to punish a person into compliance.

  2. Yay! FINALLY!
Now hopefully Lynn can see how much of a douche Connor is. No decent boyfriend will be jealous without a motive and short temper is no reason to excuse dumb behavior.
Jonah will show Lynn what a real man looks/act like!

  3. WOOOT, I'm so sick of Connor and his insecurities, like shit I get it everyone got hurt in one way or another but he keeps laying it on Lynn. Jonah FTW, I hope he swoops her off her feet!

  5. I don't want you hanging out with other guys alone? Grow up, Connor.

  6. YESSSSS!! Bring him back, bring him back, BRING HIM BACK!!!! Loveeee Jonah!!! I'm so excited!!!!! Also, I've been lately getting a very controlling vibe from Connor. I like the guy, but from the start, everything has had to be his way and it's almost impossible to communicate properly with him. He's just seems to be very controlling and it's kind of bugging me. But either way, JONAH'S COMING BACK INTO THE STORY!!! WOOOO!!! Awesome post! Can't wait to see how they get rid of Poppy too!

  7. I usually don't comment much, but I kinda see where Connor is coming from, although I will say it's way too early in their relationship to be this way. I am not comfortable with my single friends hanging out at my house with my husband when I'm not there. It's not that I don't trust anyone in the situation, it's just not very appropriate in my view. It's one thing if I'm on my way home and running late or something like that, but in general I see why Connor would feel the way that he does.

    1. Except that Adam is not just taken, he's taken by her best friend! What are the chances she turns completely a bitch and screws up relationship and her friendship...

    2. I see your point , too and agree. Maybe it was just the way he said it... ~Z

  8. So, casual sex he's down with. Trusting his partner with a platonic friend - not so much?
Buh-bye Connor. Not excusable. I certainly hope she doesn't go along with it, because something tells me she's going to end up alone with Jonah at some point in the near future. Thank GOD.

So, so glad. Connor is proving to be really immature, I'm really just not turning out to be a fan of his. I really hope she ditches him for Jonah.

  10. See ya Connor. So happy Jonah is coming back. :-)

  11. Alright, Connor really bothers me. In the beginning, his actions were kind of explainable, because she did obviously blow him off for another guy after they "hit it off", but was still extremely childish. Although, I understand his reasoning that he didn't want to get hurt.

However, now that they are officially dating, and he tells her that she's not allowed to hang out with guy friends alone .. especially one that happens to be her best friends boyfriend? Like, come on. She has given him no reason to not trust her up to this point, and she was also completely honest about the reason she blew him off that first time.

Although .. YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY that Jonah is coming back! I've loved him right from the beginning! Lynn definitely needs someone that is going to help her grow as a person, and will help the story line progess in some interesting ways! I think that if Connor stays in the picture, he will just drag her down, and she's going to be doing a lot of "picking her battles". Plus - if he's like this now, what is he going to be like when the relationship becomes more serious?

Love this blog though! Pleaaase give Lynn and Jonah another shot!

  12. Get rid of Conner. RED FLAGS. HUGE RED FLAGS. Any man that can't trust his significant other alone with a male friend, let alone the boyfriend of a friend, will be a controlling nightmare. Get out now because this isn't going to improve. This was a battle to pick. Any BS excuses like, "he was cheated on in the past" or "he was hurt before" are window dressing on a huge Conner character flaw.

Tell Kadie. Don't set her up to get blindsided by a Poppy stunt. Poppy could be trying to sabotage her at work right now and Kadie would be totally oblivious until it's too late.

    1. You said everything I wanted to say. Especially about Kadie - they are harming her more than helping her (and being condescending) by not telling her that Poppy has her on her radar. How is she supposed to protect herself??

  13. Poppy is the leak. She needs to spill the beans RIGHT NOW. Or Kadie is going to lose her job and Lynn is going to lose her friend. mum

  14. I have to say I'm glad and I hope Lynn goes back to Jonah. After this post Conner is seeming bad, wanting to control her. I don't like him at all now. Can't wait for Tuesday smh going to be a long weekend.

  15. Ok, anyone else think it's wierd that Lynn has a key to Connor's place? I know she said it was a spare key, but obviously one she can use whenever she wants. I thought they were taking it slow and it sounds like she practically lives there. Where I think Connor has no right to tell Lynn who she can hang out with, I could see where he wouldn't want them hanging out in his apartment when he's not home. I have never made a secret out of the fact I'm a HUGE Jonah fan, I've never really liked Connor. Kadie needs to know about Poppy. Hell, I think Eva should know what Poppy is up to since it could potentially affect her business. Poppy is a huge loose cannon.

    1. Yes, I thought it was weird too. They are dating and have been barely dating for a nano-second. A key??

  16. Maybe Poppy leaked it and they can prove it and her aunt will send her packing I don't like Poppy!!! I liked Connor but he is a douchbag now so maybe he needs to go on and let us see Jonah some more to see if we still like him!!! Can't wait to see how this goes!

  17. Connor's possessiveness is out of control. I'm sure it's related to his ex-wife cheating on him, but if he doesn't trust lynn to be alone with a male friend anywhere why are they together? I understand thinking it's weird that they are hanging out alone in his apartment, but he said he doesn't want her hanging out with a guy alone anywhere. He is going to have to change his tune fast. It's also going to be interesting with Jonah back now that Connor and Lynn have had two fights within a week. Should make for fun reading.

Also I hope Poppy disappears soon.

  18. I don't like Connor anymore. He has a bad attitude, and there seems to be more bad days than good in Lynn's and Connor's relationship. The fact that he prohibits Lynn from hanging out with other men is also ridiculous. I'm sorry Connor, but that's a deal breaker for me. I want Jonah back! JONAH! JONAH! (:

  19. Jonah Jonah Jonah

  20. Lol came back hooping for a bonus post. Not this week :/ lol.

  21. I'm in the minority here, but hey, I'm used to it :) I like Connor. I also like Jonah. Whom I like more is difficult to say. Not excusing his way of expressing it, but I understand why Connor said what he did about Adam. I trust my best friend with my life, but I also wouldn't leave her alone with my man. Not because I think anything would happen, but just because I think it is overall inappropriate. Furthermore, my friend and man would find it strange themselves. Most likely, the only thing they have in common is me, so it only makes sense that I be a part of the equation.

There might be some insecurities there as well. But I see it as more of it being inappropriate; especially while in Connor's house. He can speak freely on who he wishes to be or not be in HIS house during his absence. I see nothing wrong with it.

  22. I have to be in the minority as well. I would not like my hubby alone w another friend at my house. I have to agree w Connor on this one. I don't stick around at other peoples houses if the wife/girlfriend is not there at that time. I would feel weird if I was home alone w a guy that wasn't my boyfriend/spouse. Meet for lunch in public or w a group of people. Otherwise, you could be setting yourself up w a lot of speculation. Would Lynn like it if she were in Connor's shoes?
Don't get me wrong, I like Jonah but life happens and i guess we will see when he gets back.
I too am shocked Lynn already has a key to Connors place & is Dying to hear if Jonah is coming back. What is wrong w THAT picture? I'd consider Connor & Lynn exclusive if she has a key to his place. Is Lynn being fair to Connor? Seems to me Connor may have a right to be concerned. If Lynn & Adam can't tell Kadie the truth ( which she IS old enough to hear!), I wouldn't want him lingering in my apartment w my girlfriend.
